They didn’t stampede through the streets causing mayhem but bumped against a pole in a field, causing the power cut . Almost 800 houses in the Clearwater Park and Ferryfields area north of the A92 and in the Duntrune area lost electricity about 9.55am. A spokeswoman for Scottish and Southern Energy said 775 addresses were affected and the majority had power restored by 10.20am. An estimated 162 homes were still without power and engineers worked to restore supplies by noon. She said the problem was caused by cattle in a field bumping against a pole holding an electricity conductor, causing it to trip. Once traced the problem was quickly rectified. She apologised to customers for the inconvenience and thanked them for their patience.
