Kirkcaldy split on referendum but Dysart is a resounding Yes

Locals who took part in The Courier’s referendum roadshow in Kirkcaldy were split down the middle.
However, while Yes and No each secured 50% of the vote in the town centre, it was a different story in Dysart where Yes secured a resounding victory with 68% saying they would vote for independence.
Ian Ferguson, 73, from Kirkcaldy was a definite No voter, saying he didn’t trust Alex Salmond.
“He thinks he’s going to walk into an independent Scotland but he has nothing to back it up,” he said.
Glenrothes man Steve Carstairs, 50, was in the Yes camp, claiming Scotland had put its trust in English-dominated political parties for too long.
Lesley Lynch, 35, said: “At the beginning I said definitely no way, but I spoke to family in Norway, which has a similar economy to Scotland, and I went to a debate and now I’m voting Yes.”
