A 36-year-old man was killed in a crash in Fife yesterday.
The man, named locally as David Shields, died when his car was involved in a collision with a van on the B981 between Cluny and Cardenden at around 6.45am.
It is understood Mr Shields was local to Cardenden and his family have stayed in the village for many years.
The two occupants of the van, which belonged to an East Lothian building firm, sustained minor injuries.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, which happened just outside Cardenden, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
Mr Shields was driving a blue Ford Fiesta when tragedy struck.
The road was closed for most of the day as officers examined the scene.
Councillor Mark Hood said: “My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
It is the latest in a spate of tragedies on Fife’s roads in recent weeks.
Last month, a motorcyclist died following a collision with a car on the A915 Upper Largo to Largoward road.
Then a 71-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash, which happened on the A92 eastbound between the Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy West junctions.
The A92 claimed two lives within days last month a 65-year-old lorry driver from Tain was also killed on the eastbound carriageway between Crossgates and Cowdenbeath. He was hit by a passing vehicle while parked in a layby.
