More than £100,000 is to be spent by Dundee City Council on renovating the Riverside Drive football pitches.
The six 11-a-side pitches, built on reclaimed land, have suffered from stones and gravel rising on to the surfaces, posing a risk.
Three of the pitches have been closed as a result of the dangers but the council now hopes that, with £115,000 worth of work, the pitches can remain viable.
A report into the football site, written by Dundee City Council environment director Ken Laing, says: “A soil survey and ground investigation was undertaken and established that similar problems might be anticipated in the future on the pitches that are currently out of service, as well as the pitches that remain in use.
“A programme of more extensive remediation works has been identified, comprising excavation, screening and relaying of the existing topsoil layer.
“It is proposed to implement these works in a phased approach to ensure the ongoing availability of a minimum of three pitches throughout the works.
“By undertaking these works, the useful life of these pitches will be considerably extended,” he added.
The report adds, however, that the need for further investment in the future may be necessary.
