Organsiers of Perthshire’s biggest car rally have said lessons would be learned after the tragic death of three people at an event in the Borders.
Coltness Car Club, which runs the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally through various locations in Perthshire, stated “spectator and competitor” safety is “always a priority”.
The car rally world was stunned by the deaths of the spectators, with several seriously injured, following two separate incidents at the Borders event, which was held in honour of former Formula 1 champion Jim Clark at Little Swinton, near Coldstream.
Two men and a woman died when a car left the road at the rally and several were injured in an earlier accident.
The 2014 Colin McRae Rally will take place on October 4 and organisers insist lessons have been learned from the Borders tragedy.
A spokesperson for Coltness Car Club said: “A closed public road rally (the Borders) is quite different to a forest special stage rally but I’m sure some lessons will apply to both.
“Safety is an ongoing priority every time we organise a rally. We will have to wait and see what comes out of events in the Borders.
“After each event there is an organising team debrief where improvements are discussed and implemented for the following year it’s a real team effort.
“Planning is already well under way for this year’s Perthshire event and safety is always a priority.”
