Scientists at Cancer Research UK will benefit from a bumper cheque after Angus volunteers smashed the £50,000 barrier. This year’s Arbroath Relay For Life teams’ combined fundraising efforts have already exceeded the total amount raised during 2013. Relay chairman Ian Angus praised teams for the amazing feat of smashing last year’s total a full four months before the September 20 event. He said the committee had done their sums and come up with a figure in excess of the £45,008 total from last year’s relay. He said: “To top last year’s total is just amazing. The committee would like to pay tribute to our fantastic fundraisers. “We cannot thank them enough for the tremendous work they are doing.” Ian is convinced that rather than easing off now that last year’s total has been bettered, the news will spur everyone on to raise even more money. Forthcoming fundraising events include a ladies night, an ’80s night and an event with the intriguing title of Guns and Buns. A full list can be viewed on the Arbroath Relay Facebook page.
