A man lay dead in his flat for several days before being discovered by friends.
Charles Ogilvie, 60, of Arbroath, was found on Monday night by four visitors to his Burnside Drive property.
The group forced their way in when there was no answer at the door.
It is believed Mr Ogilvie had been lying in the flat for several days and had died of a heart attack.
One neighbour said: “I didn’t know Charles very well but he was quiet and kept himself to himself.
“As far as I know he lived in the flat himself and nobody knows exactly how long he’d been lying there.”
Another neighbour said: “I heard about it yesterday and was quite surprised.
“I saw him out and about a lot but I don’t think he had many family or friends.”
Police Scotland said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A Tayside Division spokesman said: “I can confirm we dealt with a sudden death on Burnside Drive, Arbroath, on Monday night at about 8.05pm.
“After police inquiries it was determined that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, and like all sudden deaths a report was submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
