Kirriemuir's connections to Bon Scott bring hundreds of people to the town every year for BonFest.
More than three quarters of Kirriemuir residents who responded to a survey are against placing a statue of rock icon Bon Scott in the town centre, it emerged today.
An Angus Council survey, conducted in April and May, found “an obvious consensus of dislike” for a tribute to the tragic AC/DC singer as part of plans for a revamp of Kirrie Square.
The local authority surveyed residents through forms at the local access office and library, and online.Should there be a statue in the Square? Comment below or email angus@thecourier.co.ukComments included: “Support erection of Bon Scott statue, but not in the square”, and “do not allow statue of Bon Scott in Square, no role model and no space in Square for two statues”.
Council officers are expected to contact statue organisers DD8 Music, which has spent years raising money for a permanent tribute to the town’s most famous musician, who died in 1980 aged 33.
