Hundreds of people turned out at St John’s Kirk, Perth, to remember the life of photographer Graeme Lafferty.

The funeral service for the former chief photographer of the Perthshire Advertiser was taken by Ms Pat Munro, the Deacon of St John’s Kirk, with the church full of family, friends and former colleagues.

Mr Lafferty, 59, died on Sunday, June 8, after taking ill in the High Street around 10.30am. He had been taking photographs of the Kirkin’ of the Council.

Police, ambulance personnel and members of the public all assisted in carrying out first aid at the scene but Mr Lafferty was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Mr Lafferty suffered from angina, although this was controlled by medication.

He had recently been working as a freelance photographer after leaving the Perthshire Advertiser.

At the funeral service on Friday, Ms Munro read out a eulogy from Gordon Bannerman, sports editor at the Perthshire Advertiser, who spoke of losing “his pal” and recalled working with Mr Lafferty on many jobs.

His coffin was carried out by close friends after the service on Friday.

Mr Lafferty’s work with the Perthshire Advertiser saw him photograph many high-profile events, including visits by the Queen. He had recently been appointed Photographer in Residence at The Black Watch Castle and Museum in Perth.
