World No 1 golfer Adam Scott will be looking over his shoulder after schoolboy Philip Brown from Dundee made history at the weekend.
Blackness Primary pupil Philip, who is just 10, notched a hole in one at Monifieth’s Ashludie Golf Course, becoming, it is thought, the youngest player ever to do so at Monifieth Links.
Watched by his dad Philip, along with professional golf coach Kenny Hutton, young Philip danced on the par three sixth tee after watching his ball bounce twice then roll into the hole.
Describing himself as feeling “really good” after the shot, he said: “I hit a three-wood. It’s 142 yards off the white tee and I just saw it going in the hole. I was just celebrating on the tee.”
Kenny said he was standing by the green chatting to his friend, Philip Sr, when Philip Jr’s ball bounced at the front of the green.
He said: “I was doing a little bit of practising and I stopped to speak to his dad, who I’ve known for a long time.
“We were watching the shot and the ball took a couple of wee bounces then rolled right in the hole.
“Young Philip was standing on the tee with both arms up in the air, he was great, punching the air and everything.
“He ran all the way up to the green then realised he’d left the cover for his wood on the tee, he was that excited.
“I played the next hole with him and he was still playing well even though he was still buzzing from it. He’s a good little player, a great talent. I’ve known him for several years and he’s keen as mustard, a talented little kid.”
Philip’s proud mum Gail said: “We’re all over the moon. He was down there to play in the sweep but none of the other juniors turned up so he was going round with an adult marker and his dad and Kenny were there to witness it too.
“It’s a great achievement for him. He got some other great news as well on Friday when he got a phone call to say he had been selected to play for Angus County under-14s at Newtonmore.
“We’re really proud of him, we’ll make a wee Tiger of him yet.”
A spokesman for Monifieth Links said they were 99% sure Philip is the youngest player ever to hit an ace at the links.
