Hopes that Montrose regeneration project could unlock jobs

A councillor has expressed his hope that the South Montrose regeneration project will unlock hundreds of new jobs in a multi-million- pound boost for the town.

Mark Salmond said the project is moving rapidly forward and he had been told by council officers that groundwork is due to begin in the next few months.

Planning permission and road building consent are now in place and the council is progressing negotiations to secure the sites they need to route the new spine road towards the GSK site.

Mr Salmond said: “I have supported this project since its inception.

“This investment will not only secure local jobs but also attract new companies to Montrose, bringing with it many hundreds of jobs in the future.”

He added: “Montrose has recently seen the opening of a new building by the Swedish-owned company Certex in the Montrose South area which brought 40 new jobs, and possible future expansion may increase that to 80.

“Officers recently assured me that this is just the start of the inward investment.

“They are confident of a possible total £94 million private sector inward investment and up to 300 new jobs may be created in the Montrose South area over future years.

“Once completed, this investment will create huge local environmental improvements for residents and businesses in the Montrose South area.”
