A senior police officer has renewed a warning to the public about carrying knives after a brutal attack in the Hilltown area of Dundee on Saturday.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Goodwin said: “The carrying of a knife can lead to serious injury or the taking of a life and it will not be tolerated.”
Police were called to Butterburn Square at midday on Saturday after a knife attack left a victim injured in the neck.
Mr Goodwin was keen to stress that Dundee is still a relatively safe area.
He said: “Tayside does not experience the same levels of knife crime as other parts of Scotland or the UK and people should be reassured that it is a safe place to live, work and socialise but that does not mean we are, or should ever be, complacent about such incidents.”
“Serious assaults involving offensive weapons do occur.
“In the majority of incidents, the person responsible is known to their victim.
“That does not make their actions any less serious, far from it, but it is important to understand that the chances of such an attack being a ‘stranger crime’ are low.”
