A pair of unlucky ducklings were reunited with their mother after a dramatic rescue from a drain.
Bridgefoot resident John-Paul Thain discovered the frantic mother swimming around a drain near his house after taking his little girl to school.
He said: “I’m used to seeing ducks around but I couldn’t figure out why this duck was sitting in a puddle with her ducklings.
“It seemed unusual as they usually get off the road pretty quick. Mum seemed really distressed and kept running out into the road.
“There were a couple of guys from Tayside Contracts putting up a lamp post in the area who said they had seen eight ducklings, and now there were only six.
“I had a look about in the bushes to see if they were in there. Then I heard squeaking coming from a nearby drain.
“I opened it up the drain cover and found two ducklings floating in there.
“I managed to hold the drain open and one of the guys from Tayside Contracts reached in and fished them out.
“They were scared and mucky looking but they just shook themselves off, ran after their mum and they all jumped in the burn.”
John-Paul’s house overlooks the burn and he and his four-year-old little girl Carmen are used to feeding the ducks in the garden.
The mother duck and her babies have now recovered from their ordeal and are swimming happily in the burn again.
