Hundreds of runners of all ages and abilities donned their running shoes in the Glenrothes Road Running Festival.
Entrants ranged from highly-honed athletes wanting to improve on their personal best times to the ever-increasing number of runners looking for sponsorship in aid of a wide variety of worthwhile causes.
The 2014 road running festival programme got under starters orders at the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Viewfield Road, Glenrothes, with the 2k fun run. Participants could walk, jog or run the distance.
This was followed by the traditional junior track jog for pre-school children, with a 300-metre run round the sports centre track.
The 10k road race came after and was open to everyone aged 15 and over. A 4k fun run was also held. It was open to runners of all ages.
Sponsors included Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, Fife Council, Police Scotland, Fife Olympiad and Active Fife.
Organisers said the success of the whole event depended greatly on those who volunteer their help. They added their appreciation for the input of those who make the festival a success by generously giving their own time and commitment free of charge.
