Support for council employees who want to volunteer for charity groups and community organisations has been applauded by Councillor Alexander Stewart.
The convener of scrutiny for Perth and Kinross Council said their employee supported volunteering policy could make “a significant contribution” across the district.
Mr Stewart highlighted the policy at the most recent meeting of the council’s strategic policy and resources committee.
“Across Perth and Kinross we have an expanding third sector,” he said.
There are approximately 900 registered charities and it is estimated that there are nearly 3,000 other third sector organisations across the county.
“I am delighted that Perth and Kinross Council are now stepping up a gear to give support.
“When approving the corporate workforce plan, the council agreed to develop, expand and promote volunteering opportunities within the workforce.
“Employees who wish to participate in the scheme can apply to do so with a shared contribution for the time off required out of the workplace.
“While not all employees will use this provision, I believe by offering it to them the scheme has the potential to make a significant contribution to a number of community organisations across Perth and Kinross.”
