Honeymooner has happy ending to passport problems

Beth and Chris got away after all.
Beth and Chris got away after all.

A Fife woman who was left in a “nightmare situation” after being informed that she may not receive her renewed passport in time for her honeymoon has jetted off on her welcome break.

Elizabeth Dey, a working mother of six, flew to Amsterdam with husband Christopher after receiving her passport last Tuesday.

The Courier told previously how due to incorrect advice from the Passport Office she had been warned that she may not receive her passport in time.

Mrs Dey, 33, of Dunfermline, married Christopher on September 1.

She said: “I got my interview in Glasgow a week past Friday and was told it would take four to 10 days which could have taken it beyond the honeymoon date. If it got to Thursday we’d be getting nervous. But it got hand delivered on Tuesday so we were happy.”

Mrs Dey, a customer adviser with Sky, had saved up for years to enjoy her first holiday with her husband. The couple have been together for 10 years.

Not only did she receive inaccurate advice from the Passport Office, she was also informed by an adviser that her application was being processed when this was not the case.

Dunfermline and West Fife MP Thomas Docherty raised Mrs Dey’s case in the House of Commons with Home Secretary Theresa May.
