Pupils wave goodbye as Burntisland Primary building closes after 137 years
ByGraham Gibson
Burntisland Primary pupils and staff gave their school a farewell hug to say a poignant goodbye to their old building.
Wednesday was the final time pupils would attend the school in Ferguson Place before they move into the new school being built at Toll Park in time for the new school year.
The whole school gathered around the old building and held hands to give it a final hug, as an aerial photograph was taken from overhead.
Staff and the management team performed flashmob performances to the surprise of pupils, while pipers were also on hand as the children left the school for the final time.
Head teacher Julie Anderson said: “We are sad to be leaving the old school but we are very excited about the new opportunities that the new school will give us.
“In our old building we could very rarely all get together because there’s no space. Being in the new school will mean that we are able to get together more often at the same time as a whole school community.
“The new school is needed and it’s time.”
