A window cleaner has thanked kind-hearted residents for “probably saving my life” after he broke his leg in a fall.
Craig Galloway, 34, was working on the windows of a two-storey home in the Dunnikier Estate when his ladder “pinged out” from beneath him, sending him crashing to the ground.
With the homeowners on holiday, the father of four dragged himself from behind the property and shouted for help despite his bone having broken through his skin.
Kind-hearted residents heard his cries and called for an ambulance.
Mr Galloway said: “They didn’t just help me they probably saved my life. The pain was so intense, I really believe my heart could have stopped.
“I didn’t actually feel anything at first but when I tried to stand up I looked down and saw this open wound with a bone hanging out and I just went into shock.”
One of the people who came to Mr Galloway’s aid was a neighbour who happened to be one of his customers.
“I do her windows and I wear headphones and sing when I work,” he said. “I’m really rubbish and she kept joking about my singing to keep me conscious.”
Mr Galloway, who lives in Cowdenbeath, was rushed to the nearby Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
He underwent a five-hour operation, likely to be the first of many, to rebuild his shattered leg.
As a result of his injuries, he said his 12-year window cleaning career is now at an end.
“The doctors told me some bones have turned to mush,” he said.
“A full recovery will take at least a year.
“My leg will never heal again to the point where it has the strength to bear that kind of weight on it again.”
