A major transformation of Perth’s iconic cinema could offer an economic boost to the city.
This year it was announced Perth Playhouse would become just the fourth venue in Scotland to boast an IMAX screen.
It will be launched in just a few weeks and enterprise and infrastructure convener John Kellas welcomed the project, saying: “Perth and Kinross Council is delighted that IMAX is coming to Perth Playhouse to provide a fantastic attraction for residents and visitors alike.
“This will significantly add to our vision of developing Perth into the most desirable place in Scotland in which to live, work, invest and visit.”
Work on the redevelopment of the art deco building will also include an extensive refit of the cinema’s interior and food court, which will be launched at the end of the month.
Owner G1 Group is confident the venture will attract film fans from far and wide.
Ken Creelman, cinema development manager, added: “The IMAX experience doesn’t just provide a new and exciting experience for our customers but will also have a very positive impact on Perth itself.”
