Family ‘devastated’ after driver left pup to die in road

A family has been “devastated” after a driver hit their puppy and left it to die.
Jack russell/chihuahua-cross Woody escaped from Kerry O’Hare’s Rattray home and ran on to Hatton Road, where the 10-month-old was struck by a gold BMW.
The motorist then drove off, leaving the puppy lying on the tarmac.
Kerry says that, while she is aware the collision was unintentional, she is angry at the man for failing to check if Woody was still alive.
The 29-year-old, who has three young daughters, said: “It was an accident Woody managed to get out but the fact the driver didn’t stop is what is distressing us the most.
“One of my neighbours saw the whole thing and said the car was speeding down the road and, when the driver noticed him, he put the foot down and drove.
“I wouldn’t have been so angry if they’d stopped. I know it was an accident but it’s not accidental to drive off it’s a hit and run.”
Police Scotland said the incident, which happened on June 21, had been reported and urged any witnesses to contact the force by calling 101.
