A man who dragged a heavily pregnant woman and assaulted her could have caused the death of her unborn child, a court has heard.
Graham Guilar, 30, of South Road, Dundee, was jailed for seven months at Dundee Sheriff Court for assaulting his now ex-partner while she was nine months pregnant.
He struck her on the head, dragged her by her clothing, then grabbed her by the hair and pulled her by the hair all to her injury.
He was also sentenced for behaving in a threatening and abusive manner during the incident which took place at Gourdie Place on June 5.
Guilar’s defence agent told the court: “He accepts full responsibility. The circumstances could have been horrendous for his now ex-partner and baby.
“He was lucky it wasn’t worse.”
She also told the court social workers had been involved in the case.
She added: “He has an alcohol problem and on the day of the incident he did consume alcohol. He uses alcohol as a coping mechanism.”
Sheriff George Way told Guilar: “You know yourself this really was a horrendous act. Your poor record and the fact you have already completed a community payback order makes this worse.
“This type of incident, to put at risk the life of an unborn child, simply cannot be tolerated.
“You don’t need social work support, you need to stop drinking and sort yourself out. Live up to your responsibilities to the children you have brought into the world.”
He was sent to prison for seven months which was backdated to the time of his remand, which was June 30.
