The Courier investigates nightmare neighbours

A ten-man police swoop to reports of a man brandishing a weapon was just part of a regular night at Dundee’s “killer multis”.

The Courier spent a Thursday evening cataloguing the events that unfolded at Elders and Adamson Court in Lochee for our new investigation.

Freedom of Information figures revealed officers are called an average of 500 times a year to the two blocks and just three hours into our stakeout they had been summoned three times.

There were 255 crimes from January 2011 to February 2014, including two murders, 34 assaults and two sexual assaults.

Lochee councillor Tom Ferguson said: “I ask people if they are comfortable there and the answer is no, they’re frightened, especially the elderly.”

Over the next three days we highlight the Nightmare Neighbours across Courier Country.

Holyrood figures show anti-social behaviour is linked to deprivation. In Perthshire, we uncover a problem street near the Ryder Cup venue. A Fife mother tells how an alcoholic neighbour stalked her child and an Angus woman reveals she copes with two sets of problem tenants.

For the first part of our investigation, see Tuesday’s Courier or try our digital edition. To share your story, phone 01382 575130, comment below, or email news@thecourier.co.uk.
