An Auchterarder man who crashed his work car after a night of heavy drinking with his boss has been banned from the road for four years.
Alan Currie, 37, was more than four times the legal limit when he jumped behind the wheel on the town’s Ruthven Street on June 13.
Appearing at Perth Sheriff Court, he told he had only narrowly avoided a prison sentence, as he had been a clear danger to the public.
Currie, of Carlownie Place, admitted driving with excess alcohol, 138 mics, on June 13. The legal limit is 35 mics.
He also admitted having no licence or insurance.
Currie was found behind the wheel of an accident-damaged car, having apparently struck another vehicle in the street.
Sheriff William Wood told the accused he had represented “a danger to the public”, given the high reading and his clear inability to drive.
In light of a previous drink-driving conviction, Currie was also made subject to a community payback order requiring him to undertake alcohol treatment and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
