Boys’ Brigade leader from Broughty Ferry jailed for online sex exchanges with 11-year-old girl

Police were so concerned about the risk a Boys’ Brigade leader posed to young children they arrested him during a camping trip with the group.

Stuart Milne, 25, was arrested in a field in Argyll and Bute after a girl’s parents found indecent images on her tablet.

They called the police when they discovered the primary pupil had been taking part in online sex chats on Skype.

A forensic examination of her devices found she had also received pictures from a man on her Skype contact list, which led police to Milne, of Boysack Gardens, Broughty Ferry.

He was jailed for two years on Monday.

Dundee Sheriff Court was told by depute fiscal Susan Ruta: “The accused is single, resides with his parents and works for Tesco as a delivery driver.

“He and his father were at the time leaders in the Boy’s Brigade.

“A search warrant was granted for the accused’s home and it was established he was on a camping trip with the Boy’s Brigade in Argyll and Bute.

“Due to concerns about this contact, arrangements were put in place to have him detained by Strathclyde officers.”

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro said she was concerned about the risk he poses to young girls as she jailed him for inducing the 11-year-old to send him photographs of herself naked and taking part in sex acts.

Milne also admitted having online sex chats with the girl over a 10-month period from October 2012 to June 2013.

Sheriff Munro rejected a plea from his solicitor for him to be placed on a community payback order, saying: “Only a custodial sentence would be appropriate given the seriousness of the charges.”

She said: “I am seriously concerned about you being around young girls so on your release you will be placed on an extended sentence which means you will be subject to supervision.”

The supervision will last a further two years and Milne was placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

The court heard Milne had been a helper with the BB group in Argyll and Bute and had never been in charge of any of the boys.
