Former Rangers defender ends talks with Raith Rovers
ByThe Courier Reporter
Former Rangers defender Ross Perry has ended talks over a short term deal at Raith Rovers as agreement could not be reached over the length of his contract.
The Kirkcaldy side wanted the 24-year-old to help them through an injury crisis and offered Perry a deal until August with the player keen on staying until the January transfer window at least.
Raith used a makeshift central defence of Laurie Ellis and youngster David Bates in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone as injuries ruled out new signing Craig Barr and Paul Watson with Perry being asked to fill in until the duo return to fitness.
The Falkirk-born defender spent eight years at the Ibrox club before his contract was cancelled by mutual consent at the end of last month.
The former Scotland youth cap is keen to add to the 36 first team games he had with Rangers as well as the experience he picked up during loan spells at Oxford United and Falkirk.
A source close to the player said: “The deal being talked about will not be proceeding.
“Raith are looking to have a player in to help them when they are short on bodies whereas Ross wants a bit more security than what was offered.”
