Thousands of retro revellers have made the annual pilgrimage to Perthshire to enjoy a weekend of nostalgia.

Queues snaked across the grounds of Scone Palace yesterday as campers arrived for the Rewind Festival.

Although the event does not officially get under way until Saturday, many in the crowd were already decked out in neon andlegwarmers in preparation for the opening party, which included a silent disco, live acoustic music and a funfair.

The jovial atmosphere is set to continue as few people are deterred by warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

While some packed wellies and waterproofs, most are hoping their sunny disposition will be enough to see them through and wet weather.

Shelley McKenzie and Robbie Wilson, both from Dundee, said they were determined to have a good time.Click here for a full photo gallery“This is our third year here and even if it’s bad weather, we still have fun,” Shelley said.

“It’s just got such a great atmosphere and the people are friendly, so we love coming here with our family.”

She revealed her top act for the weekend was Roland Gift.

She added: “The Fine Young Cannibals were always playing in the background when I was younger so it will be amazing to see him on stage.”

The forecast is a bit of a concern for a group of first-time Rewinders from Kirkcaldy, however.

Barbara Ramsay and Laura Spencer have not been camping before and were a bit apprehensive about roughing it in the rain but friend Lindsay Thomson laughed off any concerns..

She said: “We’ve got our wellies at the ready. We know a lot of people who have been before and they said it is great fun in any weather.”

They will be facing the headache of pitching their tents before heading off to the main arena, this will not be an issue for some forward-thinking campers.

A “glamping” area has been set up, offering accommodation in yurts, the Hotel Bell Tent and podpads, along with private toilets and showers.

Among those enjoying a weekend of comparative luxury will be Marianne McNeillie, of Kilwinning, who is attending her second Rewind.

“Everything has been done for us, so it’s great,” she said.

“We came here last year for our sister’s 50th birthday and it was such a nice atmosphere that we’ve come back again.

“We’re all prepared for any weather and I’m looking forward to seeing Go West.”
