Developments show Perth High Street ‘is on the up’

A new jewellery shop is another economic boost for Perth and a “real vote of confidence” for the city, its operator says.

Jane Atkinson, who runs the popular Bertie Browns in South Street, will also be in charge of the new Pandora concept store franchise in the High Street. She told The Courier that the move shows that Perth city centre is “on the up”.

A variety of new stores has opened in Perth recently and plans have been drawn up for a Clydesdale bank branch and a tourist information site in the city centre.

Ms Atkinson has recruited seven members of the staff for the Pandora shop.

She said: “Perth city centre has been hit quite badly by the economic downturn over the past few years so the opening of such a high end brand is a real vote of confidence for Perth.

“With the new Starbucks opening on the High Street, USC taking over from Sports Direct and the new branch of Clydesdale Bank opening up next door to the Pandora Store, Perth High Street is definitely on the up.

“I am taking on seven new employees and hope to recruit more as the business takes off.”

She continued: “The team and I are very excited about opening our first concept store. It is a great opportunity for us and for the beautiful city of Perth.

“I hope it will inspire others to invest in the city and embrace the vote of confidence a brand like Pandora brings to the High Street. It is a great opportunity for us and Perth and, hopefully, it will inspire others to invest in the city.”

Dan Shaw, vice-president of Retail for Pandora, added: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new store in Perth. As a Danish brand, aimed at women of all ages, the new store embodies a Scandinavian, feminine design and acts as the perfect setting for our beautiful, hand-finished jewellery.”

Pandora will open on August 29.
