Council unable to say when Breadalbane Community Campus swimming pool might reopen

Council bosses have admitted they have no idea when an Aberfeldy swimming pool will reopen after a leak forced its closure more than a month ago.

The liner at the Breadalbane Community Campus facility was found to be leaking earlier this year and when workman began repairs they discovered a second, more serous fault in the pool tank.

Perth and Kinross Council says a damage assessment must be carried out on the tank leak before work can progress.

Officials admitted they do not know how long it will take to fix the problem.

Breadalbane Campus opened in December 2010, offering facilities described at the time as “second to none”.

The campus was constructed and is being run in conjunction with Axiom Education.

A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “A damage assessment report is being carried out at this time and, unfortunately, until that independent report is completed no repair work can begin.

“It is also not possible to estimate the length of time the works will take until the extent of the required repair work is known.

“The costs for structural repairs and associated works will be wholly met by Axiom or the construction contractor.

“As part of the contract with Axiom, a deduction is being made from their charges for any area which is unavailable for use. This will be paid back to Perth and Kinross Council.

“Live Active Leisure will be reimbursed for loss of income as a result of the pool closure.

“We appreciate that the pool closure is frustrating for users and we are as keen as local residents are to ensure that the extent of the repair works are known and completed as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, local residents with a live active card who wish to use another Live Active Leisure swimming facility will benefit from a 50% discount off the cost of a swim at any other LAL venue until the Breadalbane pool reopens.”

The Courier was unable to reach Axiom for comment.
