Angus Cycling Festival organisers are looking forward to welcoming biking enthusiasts from across the county for its family day at Forfar’s Reid Park.
The event will have demonstrations, live music, food stalls as well as a variety of races and competitions.
The Youth Cross Country Race will start from the park at 10am, followed by the balance bike race for toddlers at 11am, a youth race for over-14s at 1pm and the airbag high jump and stunt competition at 3pm.
Registration for the events takes place from 9am.
Organiser Scott Francis said: “We also have the first round of the Big Tree Campervans Tayside and Fife Youth Cross Country race which will see youngsters competing against each other on a short course.
“The balance bike race for toddlers is sure to be a great spectacle.
“Angus Bike Chain and Alpine Bikes will be there doing free bike checks and there will also be lots of the latest bikes to drool over from the likes of Kona, Giant and Trek.
“We will have demonstration bikes available for the public to try on our demo track, but please remember to bring photographic ID and another form of paper identification with an address on otherwise you will not be allowed to take demo bikes out.”
The festival concludes on Sunday with a family bike ride around Forfar Loch, setting off from Forfar Leisure Centre at 10am, and a mountain bike race from 10am to 2pm. There will also be the final of a schools competition.
The festival had a successful start last weekend with three sold-out events.
Scott continued: “Our ladies’ road ride, which was organised by Rhona Guild and other members of Angus Bike Chain, saw 30 participants take to the Angus roads from Kirriemuir on a 20-mile ride around Lintrathen Loch with a rest stop at Peel Farm.
“The response has been fantastic and there is a real appetite to organise more women’s events.
“The Skinny Glens road ride saw another 30 people take to the roads around Glen Isla on a guided ride organised by Alex Pattison.
“The final event was our Epic Glens mountain bike ride which was a coaching day which aimed to give the participants the knowledge and skills to make journeys deeper into wilder terrain by bike. This again was very well received.”
Public car parking is at the old Chapel Street School in Forfar and the event will be well signposted.
