The gateway, worth £7000, has stood in the Fife town for many years but it is suspected thieves struck to sell the valuable metal for scrap value. Incredibly, the theft may have occurred between mid-June to late July, but police were only made aware of this by Fife Council last Thursday. Officers have since carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area and say they are keen to speak to any witnesses. Those with information can contact the force on 0845 600 5702. Fife Council was invited to comment on the matter but no one was available to do so.
