Motorists are expected to face delays when maintenance work lasting nine weeks gets under way on the Friarton Bridge.
The £450,000 investment by Transport Scotland will see essential maintenance work carried out on the bridge and will involve the upgrading of the existing central reservation safety barrier.
A 30mph speed limit will be in force throughout the works.
To accommodate the work, the Friarton Bridge will close northbound on Sunday January 27, from 7.30pm to 6.30am, and traffic will be diverted through Perth.
The scheme will be undertaken in two phases, with the first taking place on Monday at 6.30am.
This will involve the northbound carriageway of the Friarton Bridge being reduced to one lane and a 30mph speed limit introduced.
Phase two will take place on the southbound carriageway and will begin on Monday March 4.
In addition, overnight closures will take place at the start and end of each phase of the works to allow for the safe erection of the traffic management system.
Closure times will again be between 7.30pm and 6.30am.
The works will involve the replacement of the safety barrier in the central reservation.
The existing barrier was constructed as part of the original bridge construction, which was opened in 1978. The barrier has reached the end of its working life and will now be replaced, with the existing barrier materials being recycled.
Andy Thompson, operating company representative for BEAR Scotland Ltd, said: “The M90 trunk road is an important strategic link connecting the central belt to the north-east of Scotland.
“This bridge maintenance scheme will help to ensure that this section of the M90 will continue to operate safely and effectively for all road users.
“Some delays are expected and we advise motorists to plan their journeys ahead.”
