Around 25 companies a week went bust in Scotland in 2012 the second-highest failure toll on record.
The latest Accountant in Bankruptcy figures show 1,264 firms went out of business in Scotland.
The result was just shy of the 2011 record figure of 1,278.
The total number of compulsory liquidations in 2012 was 946, while a further 285 businesses failed as a result of creditors’ voluntary liquidations and there were 33 receivership situations.
“We can see from the 2012 numbers that the recession, if it ever went away, is continuing to wreak havoc on corporate Scotland,” corporate recovery partner Bryan Jackson said.
