The grim find on Johnshaven beach is understood to be 55-year-old Kirriemuir woman Jane Thomson. Police had launched a missing person appeal after Ms Thomson left her home address at noon on Wednesday. Officers believed she was using a blue Land Rover Discovery and gave its number plate in their appeal. The vehicle was found parked at Johnshaven harbour and was guarded by police before being uplifted in the afternoon. Grampian Police said the body has still to be formally identified by next of kin.
