Seven crew have been rescued after a cargo ship ran aground off the west coast of Scotland.
The 90-metre MV Fri Ocean is stuck on rocks around 2.5 miles south of Tobermory in the Sound of Mull. The ship was heading from Fort William to Varberg, Sweden, when it got into difficulty.
A 999 call was made to Stornoway Coastguard just after 6am today reporting the vessel had run aground. Tobermory’s RNLI lifeboat and coastguard rescue team are at the scene to help with the rescue.
All seven crew are said to be safe and well and no-one was injured. There has been no pollution reported from the ship, which was carrying a cargo of wood, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said.
The vessel is currently upright and taking on water, but pumps are keeping the level steady, coastguards added.
