The Scottish SPCA has launched an investigation after a dog was found in Glenrothes struggling to breathe because of a massive throat tumour.
A member of the public handed the distressed female dog in to Glenrothes police station last Thursday evening after she was found in the Cadham area.
SSPCA inspector Louise Seddon immediately took the collie/Labrador crossbred to a vet where she was found to be severely underweight and suffering from breathing difficulties, both symptoms of the obstructive mass in her throat.
Sadly, the vet assessed that the 765 gram tumour was so advanced it had become inoperable and the dog, which was between five and eight, was put to sleep to end her suffering.
Anyone who recognises the dog is asked to call the animal helpline on 03000 999999.
