AT&T National: Billy Horschel sits top in Maryland
ByJenny Thomson
Billy Horschel sat at the top of a congested leaderboard as the early starters were finishing their rounds on day one of the AT&T National at Congressional.
The 26-year-old’s birdie on his penultimate hole gave him the clubhouse lead with a three-under-par 68, one shot clear of a large group of players.
That included former US Open champion Jim Furyk, Ryder Cup player Nicolas Colsaerts and American Ben Kohles who all carded 69s.
Argentinian Fabian Gomez and Americans Brandt Jobe and Bud Cauley were also all two under as they approached the turn.
Major champions Vijay Singh and Angel Cabrera were a further shot back after finishing their rounds, while Australians Adam Scott and Jason Day were level par after playing the third.
