Wimbledon: Laura Robson overcomes nerves on Centre Court
ByThe Courier Reporter
Laura Robson reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time as she overcame a bout of nerves to swat aside Mariana Duque-Marino in front of a star-studded audience on Centre Court.
Duque-Marino defied her world ranking of 117th to break Robson’s serve twice, but the British number one hit back three times to seal the tense first set after 42 minutes.
Robson’s nerves eased in the second set after she broke serve early and the 19-year-old went on to seal a 6-4 6-1 win to set up a third-round clash against world number 71 Marina Erakovic.
