Police are investigating after a woman was assaulted in Crail at the weekend.
The 26-year-old victim was targeted in the Bow Butts area of the town between 1am and 2.15am on Saturday.
Police launched an urgent appeal for information following the incident and confirmed inquiries are ongoing.
However, the force was unable to comment on rumours that the victim was attacked by more than one person and also rebuffed suggestions that the assault was sexually motivated.
Requesting that anybody who has information come forward, Detective Inspector John Anderson said: “We are looking into the full circumstances of this assault and we ask that anyone who was in the area or heard anything unusual at the time of this assault contact police immediately.”
