First stop for The Courier referendum roadshow on Friday was Almondbank, home to Perthshire’s largest engineering employer, Vector Aerospace.
Among the first to stop and register their opinion was 73-year-old John Robertson from Perth.
“I will definitely be voting no for independence on September 18,” he said.
“Alex Salmond and co are taking us quite frankly on a journey into the unknown and if it is a yes vote and his policies don’t work out it will be too late for us all. It’s a bit like the sinking of the Titanic and if Scotland does become independent there will be no point trying to rearrange the deck chairs after the ship has gone down.
“To quote the old saying ‘if you want to know the road ahead ask those on the way back’ and we don’t know what the road ahead is. That is why I am sticking with the Better Together campaign and voting no.”
Backing the yes campaign was Wilma Lumsden, a former SNP councillor on Perth and Kinross Council.
“I am obviously all for independence – it has been far too long in coming,” she said. “We have never had a level playing field at Westminster with far too few MPs to have our opinions accepted.”
David Armstrong, 71, a retired farmer from Tibbermore, said: “I am a pensioner concerned about my pension. I am also concerned about the financial situation we have no budget plan how is Alex Salmond is going to fund Scotland.”
Young voter Kyle Taylor (16), a pupil at Perth Grammar, is unsure how to cast his vote.
“I am undecided, but I will definitely be voting,” he said.
In the afternoon the roadshow was in Methven where Conservative MSP Liz Smith was among the visitors.
