Tullis Russell: Biomass plant ‘will continue to operate’
ByThe Courier Reporter
The operator of the £200 million biomass plant on Tullis Russell’s Fife site will carry on despite the loss of its single largest customer.
The biomass plant was designed and commissioned in conjunction with Tullis Russell and The Courier understands that the paper mill had options over around 17MW of the facility’s total output of 65MW.
The plant the largest of its kind in the UK was only officially opened by Scotland’s Energy Minister Fergus Ewing at a ceremony in Fife last month.
“Having worked closely with the local community and employees of Tullis Russell for several years, we are genuinely very sorry to hear of the announcement,” RWE said in a statement.
“Our power station at Markinch can run independently of Tullis Russell, and it will continue to operate.”
