Bury forward Joe Thompson is making a good impression in his trial spell with St Johnstone.
The attacker, who can play wide on the right or left, has been training with the Perth squad for the last 10 days.
A bounce game has been arranged for next week, and Saints boss Tommy Wright will decide whether to make Thompson an offer after that.
The 26-year-old, who has been on loan at Southport this season, will be a free agent in the summer.
Wright explained: “We have extended his stay until the middle of next week and we will make a decision then.
“He has done well. We’re pleased with him and we have something arranged in training for next week.”
Meanwhile, there was no fresh news on players re-signing.
Wright noted: “Negotiations are still going on with one or two players and with others we will see where we are at the end of the season.”
The push for a Europa League place continues against Inverness Caledonian Thistle tomorrow.
Should Saints make it, keeper Alan Mannus will only return from his honeymoon just over a week before the first match.
Wright doesn’t believe that will be an issue though.
He said: “If we are in Europe Alan would be back training for a week before any game so that wouldn’t be a problem. He is the ultimate professional in terms of how he looks after himself.
“We have to get into Europe first. That is the main thing.”
