The mother of a Tayside boy who was born profoundly deaf has told of her delight after he said his first word. Oliver Bosch, who underwent pioneering treatment in the United States and Italy, said “on” at his family’s Carnoustie home last week. The three-year-old was born without any auditory nerves and was fitted with a brain stem implant in 2013. His mother, Jemma Bosch, said they were overjoyed. She said: “We just can’t believe it. “It has been such a hard journey but this has made it all worthwhile. “Most children’s first words are mummy or daddy but we were so delighted when he said ‘on’.”
