A huge fire has ripped through an Angus wood processing plant.
Flames shot through the roof and smoke was visible for miles when the blaze broke out at Firewood Express in Arbroath on Friday afternoon.
The cause of the spectacular blaze at the Elliot Industrial Estate plant will now be the subject of an investigation.
Four workers were on duty and raised the alarm when the fire was discovered around 4.25pm.
Eighteen firefighters were involved in the operation and crews trained three jets on the building to douse the flames.
Crews worked hard to make sure the fire did not spread to a diesel tank that was also inside the building.
Craig Thomson, station manager at Kingsway East Fire Station, said:
“It is a timber processing plant inside the building with a diesel processor with a diesel tank in there as well.
“A major concern was extinguishing the fire and preventing the diesel from becoming involved which we have done successfully.”
He said the fire had caused “extensive damage” and he praised the workers for the good advice they gave crews on arrival about potential hazards.
Firewood Express is a trading name of Turf n Stuff Ltd.
