A Perth councillor is calling for one of the city’s main schools to be replaced.
Willie Wilson, one of the representatives for the Perth South ward, has asked for plans to be set out for the replacement of Perth High School.
The Liberal Democrat councillor feels the building is “showing its age”.
He said: “The school has recently had excellent new sports facilities in terms of an all-weather pitch and now a state-of-the-art sports hall has been constructed on site.
“Whilst these facilities are excellent, they have thrown into sharp relief the poor quality of many of the rest of the buildings at Perth High School.
“I recently spent a day at the school and was really impressed with the attitude of the students and dedication of the teachers. However, they could achieve even more if the building was up to scratch.”
Mr Wilson said he “fully realises” there is no budget allocation for the move just now, but feels the council should “seriously look” at how the school’s replacement could be undertaken in the future.
“There is a decant option into the new school being built at Bertha Park,” he added.
“Whilst this would be a temporary measure, it would allow clear access to the Perth High School site in 20192020 to carry out a phase replacement programme.
“The other option is to carry out the replacement on a phase basis on-site but this would be much more problematic.”
A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “The council is unable to comment on Councillor Wilson’s political opinion. The council is, however, considering future capital programmes as part of normal business arrangements.”
