Lorry ban and 20mph limit considered for Perth street

Heavy goods vehicles could be banned from a Perth street after complaints from residents.
Councillors recently agreed that the public should be consulted on plans to tackle problems experienced on Glover Street.
“Glover Street is a main through route from east to west which bisects the city,” said Barbara Renton, depute director (environment).
“As a result, it is a popular route for a large volume of traffic that uses the route on a regular basis. Glover Street is a narrow road with narrow footways, resulting in the adjacent residential housing being in close proximity to the carriageway.
“Some of the residents have voiced their concerns about drivers of heavy goods vehicles ignoring the present 7.5 tonne limit and continuing to use the route on a regular basis.”
Consultations are now taking place with a view to introducing a traffic management order which would reduce the vehicle weight restriction to 3.5 tonnes and introduce a 20mph speed limit on a short section of Glover Street.
