‘This is our only chance to regenerate the town’ Crieff Business Improvement District ballot opens

Those backing the project hope it will help support business development in the town.

A much-anticipated ballot that could decide the future of Crieff town centre has opened.

The Scottish Government is supporting the development of a Business Improvement District (Bid) as a model to assist the regeneration and asset management of a town or city centre, tourism areas, business park or rural area.

It was confirmed that 314 eligible properties have been identified in the Crieff Bid boundary, with each property owner or person responsible for the non-domestic rates being entitled to vote for or against the Bid.

The ballot paper, along with a copy of the Crieff Bid business plan, has now been posted.

The Bid’s priorities include putting Crieff back on the map and attracting more visitors. It also wants to create a more “welcoming Crieff” through improvements to the town centre and introduce better parking.

Graham Donaldson, of the Bid steering group, said: “The Bid boils down to three key issues. This is our only chance to regenerate the town there is nothing else on the table; and the Bid brings all Crieff businesses together to work towards the successful implementation of a superb five-year plan.

“Lastly, Crieff Bid is a fair way to generate the resources and money to ensure we move Crieff forward as a successful vibrant place to do business and live.

Alan Rankin, project leader of the Crieff Succeeds Bid, said: “It’s now down to each business to cast their vote as they wish. The process started back in October 2013.”

The postal ballot will be open until June 18.
