Fife Council’s Labour administration leader has offered condolences to the family of the 11-year-old boy who died following an accident at Lochgelly Raceway on Saturday.
Keir Millar, from Lockerbie, died at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh on Monday afternoon.
At the start of Fife Council’s executive committee meeting in Glenrothes on Tuesday, Councillor David Ross said: “This was a very tragic event. All our thoughts and condolences are with the family.
“This must be a horrific time for them.”
Police were called to Lochgelly Raceway at around 8pm on Saturday following reports that the boy had sustained serious injuries during a stock car event.
In a statement confirming he had died, Keir’s family said they are “extremely distraught”.
They described Keir as a “much loved son and brother who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
The Dumfries and Galloway youngster took part in the Ministox racing series and last year won the Ninja Kart Championship in England.
Hardie Race Promotions, which operates the Lochgelly Raceway, has cancelled this Friday’s race meeting as a mark of respect.
