A former roadside diner on the Kingsway looks set to be transformed into a branch of the sandwich giant Subway.
The site, near Camperdown Park, most recently operated as MJ’s Coffee House and Diner, but the business closed in January 2014 after around a year of trading.
Prior to that, it was purpose-built to house a branch of the nationwide motorway restaurant chain Little Chef but disappeared in a cull of under-performing outlets.
Subway will need to redress that difficult local trading and cope with the presence of fast food outlets on the nearby retail parks to make a success of the venture.
Plans were submitted to Dundee City Council for what would be the fifth Dundee outlet for the growing chain.
Branches already operate in the Wellgate and Overgate shopping centres, on Happyhillock Road and on Brook Street in Broughty Ferry.
During last year it added an average of five shops a week to its UK and Ireland operation.
