A Montrose man headbutted a stranger who approached him in the street claiming he was owed money.
Stephen Watson, 38, of Union Street, admitted at Forfar Sheriff Court that on August 23 last year at George Street, Montrose he assaulted a man by headbutting him to his injury.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the incident happened at 1am as the men were approaching a nightclub in the town.
She said: “There was a brief conversation but for no apparent reason the accused lunged forward and headbutted the complainer in the face.
“The man suffered a cut to the bridge of his nose and was treated by paramedics at the scene, who applied five paper stitches.
“The man refused to attend Ninewells Hospital.”
Defence agent Nick Markowski said his client had little recollection of the incident.
“The complainer approached him claiming that he owed him £10.
“Mr Watson said he didn’t know him and didn’t owe him any money.
“The complainer is seen making one final comment and that seems to be the catalyst.”
