An oil industry consultant has been fined a total of £1,100 for a string of assaults on his ex-wife and his current partner.
Michael Swankie, of Tarrybank Gardens, Arbroath, appeared before Sheriff Pino Di Emidio at Forfar having previously admitted two charges of domestic assault, one dating back almost 20 years.
The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting his former wife on two occasions between July 1995 and November 2002, by kicking her on the body, grabbing her throat and pinning her down.
He also admitted assaulting his current partner twice between June 1 2011 and November 30 2013 by grabbing, punching and pushing her.
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie told the court the historical incidents had come to light after police contacted Swankie’s former wife following the more recent offences.
“The relationship with the second complainer continues,” he said.
Sheriff Di Emidio said: “I deferred sentence (from January) for you to be of good behaviour and that will be taken into account.”
